The Circus Girl, 30x40 Oil Painting

$1,990.00

I’ve long been inspired by old vintage photos of circus performers. Women who were bravely living outside of societal norms.

This painting is a celebration of that independence, individuality and freedom. For more about the inspiration and process behind this painting, click here.

This painting has a hint of subtle shimmer - I've been wanting to incorporate gemstone in my oil paintings for some time. I added this beautiful subtle shimmer by applying crushed silver mother of pearl. It's lovely. I choose to paint a zebra instead of the horses that were more common for vintage circuses. Zebras symbolize freedom, balance and individualism to name a few.

The red string also has various symbolic meanings. I'm particularly drawn to the red string of fate. In many Eastern cultures, it is said that our lives move in a pre-ordained direction guided by invisible strings of thread woven into the fabric of the universe.

Makes you wonder… perhaps those of us who choose to march to the beat of our own drum are fated to do so by the universe itself.
